When You Ask The Universe For Something, Show Gratitude When You Get It

Flavor of the Day: Artizen’s Cheetah Piss pre-roll

Last week was a hell of a week… It started with me typing out this full article only for nothing to be saved when I left the screen, even though I swear I hit “save” a billion times. (I made sure to this time!) Yes, I almost cried… Yes, I had to shut the laptop & go have a smoke before I threw it. WP is also supposed to autosave, dammit! Work was filled with training & a new task/process thrown at us, so my brain was FRIED. I also am dealing with a “lead” who shouldn’t be a lead and a team too scared to speak up. Daughter was also dealing with a personal thing that I had to put my mom hat on for. Just one thing after another made me not up for writing. Even though I had every intention of rewriting this article last week, it didn’t happen.

Yes, I yelled at myself every day I didn’t write. Yes, I yelled at myself for yelling at myself because I’m trying to show the Beautiful woman in the mirror the compassion that I show others.

A couple of weeks ago, as I was working, Aeri texted me about a critical lockdown at her school. My heart dropped to my stomach seeing her words, the worst is always what crosses my mind first. So I began picturing a safe yellow orb around Daughter, her group, the class she was in, & the whole school, just praying to whoever was listening that they’d be ok. I continued to work, just picturing the “orb of protection,” and finally, she texted me that the critical lockdown turned into non-critical and then was lifted completely. It turns out LE was responding to a DV call and the suspect went and parked at the school, left, then came back. I believe they apprehended them, but all I cared about was everyone’s safety.

I continued to work busily when I paused & thought, “I didn’t say thank you.” Right then and there, I whispered my “thank you” to whoever keeps Daughter safe.

That’s how I thought of the title for this article. How many times do we hope/wish/pray for something & when we get the results, we forget to say thank you? Sometimes, those prayers are answered in a different way than we imagine and sometimes, (most of the time) life’s gift is even better than the one we had envisioned.

Be grateful for that new face that makes you smile. Be grateful for the group of friends who love you just the way you are. Be grateful for the animals that picked you as their pets that drive you crazy. (Stormie is being needy as I edit. I swear, he has the worst timing, but I love the little grey asshole.) Be grateful for the supportive family that has you on one of the tallest pedestals. Show the universe that you’re grateful to be alive.

“Don’t ask what the world needs. Ask what makes you come alive, and go do it. Because what the world needs is people who have come alive.”- Howard Thurman

For once, I was reading our Book Club book “The Gifts of Imperfection” by Brene Brown before the actual day of our meeting, when I came across this quote & it spoke to me. The world does need more people who are alive & free. Let’s keep ourselves from being the cause of a zombie apocalypse because we don’t live. Accept that invitation from someone you hardly know, even if your anxiety is scarin’ the shit out of you. Enjoy the moment, even if it wasn’t how you planned. Play a board or card game and laugh til your cheeks & stomach hurt. Live the short life that you have by being your favorite version of yourself every day.

I was talking to my work bestie about my article when she piped up, “Yeah! And when you ask the universe for something, you need to shut up and be ready to receive it. ” Amanda Gettings

She’s absolutely right! Don’t change your mind about something that you’ve been dreaming of, just because it didn’t happen the way you wanted it to or that you “weren’t ready” to receive it. Don’t stall from a blessing because you are experiencing imposter syndrome. YES, YOU DESERVE IT. You deserve to live a happy and fulfilled life, but you have to take action. You have to do the work to be worthy of the gift you’re given. Be your best self, show kindness to others, and treat your tribe like the kings and queens they are. Don’t ever think that you don’t deserve a blessing, or that someone else deserves it more than you. Those are just lies that your self-doubt demon likes to tell you.

When you’re overwhelmed, or doubting things, take a step back or even better, step outside! Put your phone down, step away from the screens & do spend some time with yourself. Do what you normally do to unwind. Enjoy a firepit with some friends. Go on a hike. Travel. Ride that motorcycle. Be creative! Do something that shows the world how you LIVE and that you’re grateful for the life that you’ve been given. Don't forget to show gratitude for the lovely life you're living & the blessings in each day.

Thank you for reading and supporting me! You guys are the reason I keep writing, so please show some love! I’d love to get some feedback from you or hear of any topics you’d like to read about.
