Spring Awakening: A Meditation

Here's a meditation for everyone as spring approaches.

My sister wrote this. I just prettied it up, read it, and asked ZeNMiND to add some background music.

My sister is a DBT therapist, so she might use this with her clients, as she uses mindfulness techniques a lot. If you want to know more about DBT therapy, you can go here: https://www.psychologytoday.com/us/therapy-types/dialectical-behavior-therapy.

It's pretty nifty. I am very proud of her! <3

Spring Awakening: A Meditation

Sit in a comfortable position

Either laying down or sitting in a chair

Eyes open with a soft gaze

Or eyes closed

Both are best

Let your body relax as you sink into your position

Let go of any thoughts of concern or worry and focus on now

On your breathing

Focus all your awareness on your breath

Notice the natural rhythm

Not doing anything different

Just notice the act of breathing

If your mind wanders

That’s ok

Just gently come back to noticing your breath

Notice with intention how your body feels in this moment

Focus on any tightness

Or tension

And breathe into those areas

Relax for a few moments more

Just noticing your breath

This mindfulness journey explores the renewal of our world transitioning

From winter into spring

As the seasons change, an awakening occurs as it does sometimes within us

As humans, we experience life

Death

Rebirth

With each passing year

Start to imagine in your mind’s eye the winter coming with the solstice

The nights are long and dark

We huddle together in doors to ward off the cold

We can feel the crisp chilly air of a snowfall

And the wonders of some holiday festivities

Imagine the coziness of a fire or fuzzy blankets

A hot cup of tea or cocoa

See yourself in winter

Take winter in with all your senses

Just when you feel that the darkness and frigid weather has been enough for you

The days begin to get a little bit longer

The earth begins to thaw

The chill in the air lessens its grip on your bones

A sign of spring comes to you

The first flower of the new season

A crocus from beneath the white snow

As the ground warms

It brings back a renewed spirit from a long winter’s sleep

From there, with a new energy

Life springs eternal once more

Transitioning from the barren land of winter

To the reawaking of the earth’s soul

Bits of green start to emerge

The hard ground starts to give way to soft dirt and mud

The sun so low on the horizon shines brighter for longer

Warming your face and body

You sense within yourself feelings of rejuvenation

Renewal

Rebirth

Whatever the darkness and bitter cold you have experienced has subsided

With each passing day warmth has returned

Life returns with abundance

It was not lost, just sleeping

only to return rejuvenated

As the landscape now starts to grow again

You too can start anew

You and the earth are just a little bit different with each passing season

There will be times when everything feels barren and frozen

Like winter

And with each spring

Rebirth and new possibilities

No winter or spring is exactly the same

And everything changes, flows

As you let go of the images of winter and transition into spring

Think about your own renewal

What will be different about you going forward

How will you emerge from the snowy depths

Think about what you want your spring to look like

Full of life?

Compassion?

Potential?

A sense of fulfillment and happiness?

Let these thoughts sit with you for a few moments

With intention

With your rebirth

Grow to who you want to be

No matter the season

Now we are going to return back to your breath

Take a deep breath in through your nose

And out through your mouth

Pushing all the air out slowly

Gently reawaken your body by wiggling your fingers and toes

Shrugging your shoulders

Feeling the clothes against your skin

Sit for a few moments more

Feeling more relaxed

And when you are ready

Rejoin back into the room
