I am so grateful for the people in our lives who made mine & Daughter's holidays memorable when it was just us. We may not have piles of things under the tree, but we both appreciate each thoughtful gift received. I am a huge kid, especially when it comes to gift-giving and receiving. I am just as happy watching everyone else open their gifts & enjoying their surprise looks, but especially happy to watch my kiddo open hers.
This particular year, Christmas Eve & Christmas Day were spent with ND & family since I didn't have Daughter on Christmas. We spent time playing games, watching movies, and baking/cooking. ND and LXI handled the baking and decorating, while L took charge of the turkeys. I helped by eating everything. I mean everything, too. I ate A LOT that Christmas. (Every Christmas, except the couple I've been sick for.)Since I hardly drink, I partook in many J's as my holiday treat. Family game nights are something I will always cherish. I forget my phone, play a competitive game or three where I usually end up losing & enjoy laughing so hard that I feel like I had a hardcore ab workout, which I never do, in case you're wondering.
That year, when I picked up Daughter from her dad's, we each took a set amount of money and went shopping for each other a couple of days after Christmas for gifts & stuff to fill each other's stockings. It was actually pretty fun; we had to avoid each other in the store and both had to be stealthy. I'm confident that many people thought I was stealing because I was hiding stuff under my coat in the cart, but I just didn't want Daughter to get a sneak peek before I was ready, even though I'm always giving people gifts early. (In case you're worried, I paid for everything. The days I shoplift are far behind me.
We went home, wrapped & exchanged gifts. I took a 4-hour nap, and after I woke up, we got Little Cesar's pizza delivered, ate while we watched a Christmas movie, & then went to enjoy the Senske Light Show in Kennewick, WA that they put on every year. We usually take the doggo, hot chocolate, & sing along to the songs while he sleeps in the back.
All in all, we spent very little money for Christmas this year and the cards that we got everyone else will be a New Year card, but that's ok. For most people, holidays aren't about the money spent but the time spent & memories made with loved ones. 2020 has been a shitshow for a lot of people, and I'm ok with making the good cheer last as long as I can. Hopefully, we all had a better year in 2021. (It's funny that I'm reading/editing & posting in 2024, going into 2025 & it was another shitshow year. Can someone get me off this ride please?
What are everyone's plans for their holiday season? Tell me your favorite holiday tradition. It doesn't even have to be a winter holiday, just any tradition that you would die if you didn't do it every year or before every event?
