Poetry Corner: My Heart's Demise

Updated: Apr 5, 2024

Poetry Corner Throwback, written June, 2004.

Looking at him through a trance

He notices and asks if I want to dance

I take his hand and look deep

Wondering if it will be him I keep

Cherishing every look, every touch

Hoping that everything he says, I can trust

I think things are going great

Thankful that this is my fate

Then I realize too late, the evil mask

Not wanting to see, or let go of this clasp

He proved many times that I was the fool

He lies and hurts while still staying cool

Always laughing behind those blue eyes

Waiting and watching, my heart's demise

Just an excitement, just a thrill

Making me learn to love against my will

Then ripping out my heart

Showing that he doesn't have one to hurt

Now, I see through that unmistakable cover

I am all alone and hurting while he has another
