Poetry Corner: And I Bid You Farewell

Updated: Apr 5, 2024

I will let you go, so that you can find yourself

I cannot promise I will be there when you're gone

Not one, am I, to be placed on a shelf

I won't watch your footprints until they are long gone

You can't promise to fight, you don't promise to stay

Find out what makes you forever happy

Go ahead and walk, once you leave, I will stray

I've earned the right to be pleased with no lie

I don't think bad of you, and I wish you the best

Take those sad, blue eyes and the smile that makes me die

Please don't look back, just leave my sight like the rest

Not your pity do I ever need

Your obstacles succeed as they push so I fail

My back will turn, my heart is ice, my words you must heed

There will come a time when I won't care if you jump off that rail

Those troubled eyes will search, but not meet mine

I will not be there waiting for you to find home

That head will not lay on my chest when you are unable to shine

You will find my smile belongs now to one unable to leave me alone

Then you will see what was in front of you

Your realization that some things are worth the bad

When pictures show a smile that once was true

Those blue eyes will show a reflection of what they once had

Don't you dare feel sorry for me

Don't you dare think that I will not survive

Once my back is turned, no more will you see

I am a fighter and because of that I will strive

But don't think that I won't go to war

For someone who will dirty their armor for battle

Dents and scrapes to show that I am a prize

Make our story one of the best to tell

So don't look back to see if I am alive

I will move on, while you're stuck in your own hell

Thanks for reading my poetry corner!
